Social networking evils

By the Cyber Team

While many of us use social media and see it as a fun way to interact with friends, there are downsides many of us fail to acknowledge. Among these are peer pressure/bullying, the distraction of a screen, an overwhelming amount of information, and the risk of the release of one’s private information. While using social media never give out personal information to strangers. Personal information can be things like your address, age, social security number, and credit card information. Also be wary of bot accounts. These accounts are automated robots that will pose as real people. They will often try to sell a good or service. Never reply to these bots. They will also help politicians appear as if they have a larger following than they really do. You can recognize bot accounts if they are brand new but already have a high comment history and all their comments are along the same line. Thank you for listening and be safe while on social media.
